The purpose of orthodontic braces is to treat your misaligned, crooked, crowded or protruding teeth. It close gaps between teeth to make sure your top and bottom teeth meet when you close your mouth. This makes your bite correct, let you eat more comfortably and benefit your smile.

Orthodontic treatments are not just for children. Many adults are identified facing problem of improper teeth alignment. With discreet teeth straightening options available at Sunningvale Dental Practice, adult orthodontics has becoming easier than ever.

TYPES OF BRACES:

Braces have to be worn at all times till treatment lasts. Some braces can be removed, whereas some are fixed to the front or back of your teeth. Our dentist will discuss with you which type of brace can be most suitable for you.

Removable braces

Removable braces comes with plastic plate with wire clips and springs attached to it, to move specific teeth. They can only move teeth by tipping or tilting them. Therefore they are used when the crowding of teeth is mild.

A removable brace needs to be worn at all times, including during nights and while taking meals. Eating with a brace can make you feel awkward initially, but it gets easier after few days. If you have to wear a mouth guard while playing sports, brace can be taken out.

Brace needs to be taken out for cleaning. We recommend you to clean your brace over a sink full of water so that if you drop it accidentally, it is less likely to get damaged.

Fixed braces

Fixed braces can be removed only by our orthodontist because they are attached to the surface of the teeth. Fixed braces are capable of moving your teeth in a very precise manner, and therefore they are most commonly used type of brace.

A fixed brace consists of small brackets, cemented to your teeth, and joined together with a wire. It's generally made of metal, but sometimes it can be made of plastic or ceramic, which are less noticed.

If required, an orthodontic mini-screw can be used to straighten your teeth, which provides a stable point to move your teeth. It is placed in a jawbone and is attached to the brace. After mini-screw is fixed, for few days your mouth and teeth may feel tender or painful.

After the treatment is over and brace is removed, our orthodontist will clean the brackets and filling material from your teeth and leave minor wound caused by the mini-screw to heal by itself.

Aligners

Aligners are removable moulds made of clear plastic. They are used if your condition is mild and you have most of your adult teeth which needs to be moved in place.

A set of two aligners (for upper and lower teeth) needs to be worn for two weeks and than they need to be replaced with a new set. This procedure continues until the treatment is complete and your teeth have moved at the right place.

Advantage of aligners is, they are almost transparent and therefore difficult to notice. At the same time they are easier to clean than braces. Disadvantage of aligners is, they may take longer to improve position of your teeth compared to braces.

Retainers

After your orthodontic treatment is complete, there remains a possibility that your teeth may move back towards their original position. This is called relapse. To stop this happen our orthodontist may use retainers, which are special braces used to keep your teeth in the correct position. Duration of retainers to be worn differs from patient to patient, depending on individual condition.

Retainers are available as removable and fixed, having their own advantages and disadvantages. Our orthodontist will help you choose the best for you.

THE BENEFITS OF ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

When do I need to see Orthodontist?

You need to see us to treat the following concerns or problems:

  • Crooked teeth
  • An improper bite
  • Excessive teeth grinding
  • Tension on gum tissue caused because of improper bite
  • Uncomfortable smile
  • Wrong alignment of teeth, lip and jaw
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Teeth clicking
  • Damage to prominent teeth

At what age should I have orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment is suitable to both, children and adults. Many people still think orthodontic treatment is for children, but the fact is you are never too old to visit an Orthodontist. In case of children, having the right number of teeth is more important than age. Before starting treatment of a children it is necessary to see if there are enough teeth.

How does the treatment start?

The first most important thing is to have a full examination. This will usually involve looking at your teeth and taking x-rays. Our orthodontist will then discuss the type of braces most suitable for your condition. The treatment will start as soon as you decide to go ahead.

Will I need to have teeth taken out to make room?

In a situation where you have overcrowded teeth and there is not enough room for all of them, you may need to have some permanent teeth taken out to make space. Our dental team will tell you if this is the case. Sometimes space can be made using other forms of treatment to save your permanent teeth.

What are Invisible Braces?

Invisible Braces are tough, clear plastic aligners that are used to straighten teeth. They are made from clear plastic, therefore they are nearly invisible. These aligners needs to be worn for roughly 22 to 23 hours a day for the desired results. They can be removed for eating, brushing, and for cleaning in between your teeth.

What needs to be done after treatment is over ?

After your orthodontic treatment is complete, there remains a possibility that your teeth may move back towards their original position. This is called relapse. To stop this happen our orthodontist may use retainers, which are special braces used to keep your teeth in the correct position. Duration of retainers to be worn differs from patient to patient, depending on individual condition.

Retainers are available as removable and fixed, having their own advantages and disadvantages. Our orthodontist will help you choose the best for you.

Will it hurt?

All appliances may feel awkward at first, and can cause discomfort for first few days or few weeks. If the problem doesn't go away, our orthodontist will be able to carry out adjustments to help.

Can orthodontics damage my teeth?

There are chances your teeth gets damaged if you don't look after them properly during treatment. The damage is not caused by the braces, however poor cleaning and too many sticky or sugary foods, and drinks can cause damage to your teeth. Brackets and wires will trap food - this will cause more plaque than usual if cleaning of teeth is not done thoroughly.

How do I care for my brace and teeth?

It is important to keep your teeth checked regularly by the dentist while you on orthodontic treatment. Apart from that you need to be more careful on these things:

  1. Clean your teeth carefully every day. Our dental team can help you by explaining cleaning techniques depending on the type of brace you are wearing.
  2. Cut down consumption of sugary foods and drinks as much as possible, as they build plaque quicker than other food items.
  3. Be careful while taking sticky and hard foods as they may damage your brace.
  4. Brush your teeth at night just before you go to sleep. Our dental team may recommend a fluoride toothpaste, or a fluoride gel or mouth-rinse, depending on the type of brace you are wearing.

Facial Aesthetics

Since setting up Sunningvale Dental, in September 1997 RajniNath Jain have been keen to offer something a little special to our clients which we know, from previous experience, is in great demand. We are talking here about Facial Aesthetics using the tried-and-tested non-surgical method of Injectable Dermal Fillers and Anti-Wrinkle Treatments (often known to the public as ‘Botox treatment' although 'Botox™' is actually a trade name for a substance called Botulinum Toxin. As neither of these terms can be used generally to advertise this service, we will continue to use the term 'Anti-Wrinkle Treatment'). RajniNath Jain has undergone extensive training in this procedure and, in response to several requests from our clients, is now in a position to open up our treatment rooms to allow those who are interested in ‘holding back the years’ to avail themselves of this invaluable treatment.

Just browse through the section below to see our prices and if you are interested please don’t hesitate to call us on 01959 575834 for more information.

On which areas can I have Injectable Anti-Wrinkle Treatment?

The main types of wrinkles which can be treated with Injectable Anti-Wrinkle Treatment are:

  1. Your Frown Lines - Vertical Lines created between your eyebrows when you frown.
  2. Forehead wrinkles - Lines created when you lift your eyebrows in surprise for instance.
  3. Crow's feet (smile lines) - The lines formed at the outside corner of your eyes when your cheek muscles rise up when you smile.

The Main Benefits to you of Injectable Anti-Wrinkle Treatment at Sunningvale Dental

  1. It's a safe, fast, convenient and virtually painless alternative to costly cosmetic surgery.
  2. The effects last for several months.
  3. Apart from a few minor injections (no worse than a few insect bites) it is completely non-surgical – meaning that you will get the benefits of visiting a ‘plastic surgeon’ without having the actual surgery.
  4. It effectively holds back the appearance of ageing almost immediately (it can take up to a week to reach the optimum appearance): If you have ever looked in the mirror and wished you could smooth out a few wrinkles, this could be perfect for you. Anti-Wrinkle Treatment relaxes the facial muscles giving you smoother skin and reduced wrinkles helping you to look up to 10 years younger.
  5. Eyebrow Lift – For the Ladies, a beautiful face and sexy eyebrows go hand in hand. As you age, your eyebrows will lose their natural arch and this, in turn can cause a ‘baggy’ look around the eyes, leading to increased wrinkles. A little Anti-Wrinkle Treatment can lift this area and regenerate puffy eyes leaving you looking younger and less tired. For our Male clients a reduction in the 'worry lines' using this eyebrow lift can keep away that haggard, aged look which most men want to avoid.
  6. Free consultations for Anti-Wrinkle Treatment at Sunningvale Dental available at a time that suits you.
  7. All treatments are carried out by the Principal here at Sunningvale RajniNath Jain – a fully qualified Dental Surgeon who is fully trained in all aspects of Anti-Wrinkle Treatment and Dermal Fillers.
  8. All prices include a free consultation and 2 week post treatment review where minor enhancements and adjustments can be made free of charge where required.

Teeth Whitening

Get the Whiter Teeth and Healthier Smile You′ve Been Wanting

One of the simplest, quickest and most effective ways to improve the appearance of your smile is with teeth whitening treatment. In fact teeth whitening can do far more than revitalise your smile – it can revitalise your self-image, your mannerisms and the impression that you make on others.

Our Teeth Whitening treatment provides immediate results and requires just an hour of your time. At the conclusion of this treatment, which is pain-free, fast and effective, your teeth will be up to eight shades whiter. Degree of lightness will vary from patient to patient. Some patients may need to repeat the procedure periodically to top up the effect.

Preparation:

If there are any other dental problems they can affect the success of tooth whitening, for example, cavities need to be treated before teeth are whitened. That's because the whitening solution can pass through decayed areas and reach the inner parts of the tooth. If your gums have receded, the exposed roots of your teeth may appear yellow or discolored. Whitening products will not make them whiter.

If you have tooth decay or receding gums, whitening may make your teeth sensitive. Whitening also does not work on ceramic or porcelain crowns or veneers.

Teeth whitening trays and gels:

Sunningvale Dental Practice can provide you with teeth-whitening trays and gels that can be worn at home. These can be very effective, but results take longer to achieve than getting treatment done at our practice. We will take an impression of your teeth and give this to a dental technician, who will build a tray to the exact measurements of your mouth. We will check that the tray fits and demonstrate how to carry out the procedure at home.

The tray fits closely around the teeth, and is filled with a whitening gel. Depending on the strength of peroxide in the gel, these trays are usually worn for a couple of hours a day or overnight. Treatment can take anywhere from three days to a couple of weeks.

In market over-the-counter whitening kits are available, although we do not recommend using them as they use a generic sized tray, which could allow the bleaching agent to come into contact with your gums, causing irritation or any other side effects. Not only they are not made to fit your mouth exactly, it may also be the case that bleaching isn't suitable for you, especially if you have gum disease or crowns. Proceeding with the treatment in these circumstances could be harmful.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Why are my teeth discoloured?

Teeth lose their natural colour for many reasons, but the main causes of teeth looking yellow are food and drink, oral hygiene and age. Drinks such as tea, coffee and red wine, and certain fruits such as blueberries stain teeth quite badly. Smoking is another common culprit.

Can I have my teeth whitened if I have cavities or gum problems?

Before treatment you will always be seen by one of our dentists to make sure that having your teeth whitened is right for you. It is not a good idea to have your teeth whitened without treating existing dental problems because the whitening agent can aggravate any cavity or gum problems.

How long will my teeth stay white?

The treatment has a long term impact on lightening the colour of your teeth but they will not be immune to the same disclouring as they previously suffered. Stains build up on your teeth from everyday living.

Tea, coffee, red wine, tobacco and spicy foods can all dull your teeth's natural colour. To maintain the impact of the treatment it is advisable to brush your teeth more frequently.

Is teeth whitening painful?

It should be a painless process. However it has been known to cause teeth and gum sensitivity in some patients.

How does it work?

Dentist at Sunningvale Dental Practice will first examine your teeth and gums for good oral health. Then we will discuss the best ways to achieve the results in the timeframe that you want. Depending on the type of system you decide upon we then schedule to provide you with all the information and timetable for treatment.

Is it safe and will it hurt?

As long as you have healthy teeth and gums it is perfectly safe. The primary ingredient in all gels is hydrogen peroxide, which has been safely used in teeth whitening for over 30 years and is recognised as an effective whitening product by the dental community.

Some people may find that their teeth become sensitive to cold during or after the treatment. Others may have discomfort in the gums, a sore throat or white patches on the gum line. These symptoms are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of the treatment finishing. It is best to avoid very hot or very cold drinks for the first 24 hours if there is any tooth sensitivity.

If any of these side effects continue you should contact us.

How white will my teeth become?

In clinical studies results will vary as your starting point may be different and everyone's teeth respond a little differently, but in virtually all cases, the results are dramatic. Ultimately, the goal will be to achieve your optimum, natural whiteness. During the consultation, our dentist will personally analyse your teeth and provide you with a customised recommendation. Even severe discoloration can be treated to yield great results. However, the more difficult cases can sometimes require a more lengthy treatment than our standard 20 minute treatment.

How long does it last?

The long-term results depend on the individual. Certain habits, such as the use of tobacco products, smoking, drinking a lot of coffee, tea, dark soft drinks, and infrequent visits to the dentist for regular cleanings, can work against the results. Regular professional care and maintaining oral hygine with good diet witness long term results. Some people prefer to repeat whitening treatment more frequently but we will advise you on the best way to optimise long term results.

You must not smoke during the whitening process. It is best to try to quit before you start to whiten your teeth.

Is this procedure for everyone?

Virtually anyone wanting to whiten his or her teeth can benefit from this treatment, including people with severe food, coffee, tobacco or tetracycline stains. Young adults from 16 years of age and older are good candidates for the procedure, especially for those that have heavy staining after orthodontic treatment is complete and their appliances are removed. We recommend that you not do this process while nursing or pregnant, receiving orthodontic treatment, or have extensive dental work, such as veneers or crown/bridges. These factors will be reviewed by our dentist at your initial consultation. The most ideal situation for Teeth Whitening is where there is not much wrong with your teeth except for the colour.

If you have old fillings, crowns or dental veneers, these will not change colour but can easily be replaced to match your whitened teeth and create a fantastic smile transformation. Our dentist will carry out a full oral assessment before helping you decide on the final options.

Can a single dark tooth be whitened?

This depends upon the cause of the dark colour, which can include a dead nerve, discoloured fillings, veneers or crowns. Our dentist will determine the cause and advise you of the correct treatment.

Is there anything else I should know?

Some patients may experience sensitivity from hot and cold drinks after treatment. If you are considering Teeth Whitening, please ask our dentist for further information about risks, benefits and suitability.

What if I have white fillings on teeth?

If you have white fillings in the front teeth that match the existing shade of your teeth before treatment, they may not match the teeth afterwards. This is because the technique lightens the teeth but cannot lighten fillings. When the desired colour has been reached, our dentist can replace these fillings with a lighter shade of filling material to match the new shade of your teeth at an additional cost.

What do I do if I have any sensitivity?

Sensitivity of the teeth is the most common side effect of home whitening. This usually occurs around the neck of the teeth where the gums have receded. If you experience any sensitivity you should stop whitening for a few days, and then resume the treatment. If you are concerned, please contact our dentist.

What about whitening toothpastes?

There are several whitening toothpastes on the market. Although they do not affect the natural colour of your teeth, they may be effective at removing staining. Therefore, they may improve the overall appearance of your teeth. Whitening toothpastes may also help the effect to last, once your teeth have been professionally whitened.

Veneers

Achieve that Hollywood Smile

Veneers are thin sheets of laminate porcelain intended to look like the surface of natural teeth, being applied to the front tooth surface in a similar way to false nails. This creates a flawless smile in a matter of moments, the treatment has become popular in recent years as a result of celebrity endorsements and the growing popularity of Hollywood smiles.

Porcelain Veneers will perfect your smile by evening and smoothing out your smile line, greatly improving the shade of your existing teeth and will evenly proportion the size and width of your teeth to give you that beautiful, perfect smile! Once bonded on they become even stronger and best of all they will never discolour or stain.

The Procedure:

Before the veneers are applied our dentist will prepare your teeth. This is a simple procedure which is carried out under local anaesthetic, requiring the removal of thin pieces of the tooth structure to permit room for the veneers. This is a small amount and generally the same thickness as the veneer.

Once the teeth are ready we will create impressions and your new veneers will be manufactured according to these. We will also discuss colour shades and shapes to help plan your perfect smile. The veneers will be fitted and applied to the teeth using dental adhesive.

How long do dental veneers last?

They should be in place for many years if you look after them well. They can break and become chipped just like natural teeth and you will need to take care when playing sports or eating hard foods.

Why can′t I just whiten my teeth instead?

In some cases, professional teeth whitening can brighten your smile and revive your appearance. When you have gaps, permanent stains, or chips, bleaching your teeth won't address the issues. Porcelain veneers literally cover the teeth and create a straight, attractive smile.

If you would like to improve, enhance, or protect your smile, please do not hesitate to contact us today.
